About the role
Our purchasing group is responsible for the development and procurement of equestrian and pet products from vendors around the world, including multiple private label brands as well as well-known international brands. The individual that we are seeking has experience in collaborating with internal departments while leading and developing a team in the pursuit of new products; building vendor relationships; negotiation; data analysis and logistics.

Expectations are high. You will ultimately be responsible for strategic planning; the development of private label apparel and gear; working with franchises to gain order commitments on seasonal buys; meeting quality control objectives and building internal and external relationships with all stakeholders in order to achieve objectives and meet time lines while improving margins and building morale. The supply chain is the lifeblood of our business.

Responsibilities
• Oversees the day to day execution of the strategic plan which guides the activities of the supply chain and logistics
• Drives continuous improvement
• Develops and implements supply chain systems that hold the team and the vendors to account for commitments
• Develops and manages all key performance indicators related to the purchasing function
• Partners with key stakeholders within the business in order to drive continuous improvement
• Determines material and merchandise input costs and trends in order to manage costs while building sales demand and maintaining / improving margins
• Periodic travel both internationally as well as domestically

Expertise Required
• Strength and skillset in retail product development with a focus on sporting and athletic gear / apparel an asset
• Experience in the fashion industry an asset
• Expert negotiating skills
• Global logistics management understanding
• Team player
• Balance multiple and competing priorities in order to meet deadlines
• Demonstrated effectiveness in working in a fast-paced environment
• Willingness to work hands-on as the business needs dictate
• Expert computer and data management skills

Experience and Education
• Minimum of 10 years in increasingly complex senior management roles
• Bachelor of Science in Business Administration or equivalent
• Experience sourcing and working with international vendors
• Demonstrated leadership in attracting and developing top talent
• Participative management style
• Demonstrated ability to manage cost while driving quality and innovation
• Experience in the equine world a preferred asset
