Current news is available at TheHorsePortal.ca, Equine Guelph's online learning platform for practical, quick learning. Given the vast amount of information on horse health and welfare, Equine Guelph has archived its past news articles from 2002-2020. They are listed below, along with a search function available to find specific healthcare topics. |
Equine Guelph has recently partnered with SaddleUp SAFELY, a coalition of 30 plus medical and horse-related organizations led by University of Kentucky HealthCare and UK College of Agriculture Equine Initiative, embarking on a 5-year campaign to raise awareness and educate the horse riding community about safety.
Horse riding and handling injuries are more common than most people think. A 2010 survey of Kentucky horse riders showed that 30% had been injured while riding or handling a horse in the past three years.
To date, the SaddleUp SAFELY website contains over 180 safety tips from injured riders and is looking to add to the list!
Share your horse riding safety tips and you will have an opportunity to win prizes including 4 tickets to the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games this September.
