The scholarship, awarded at the Can-Am Equine Emporium, is based on a combination of academic achievement and a 500-word essay submission describing the value of the Equine Science Certificate program and how it has helped the student with their own horse(s). A third-party committee including educators and horse industry members marked the essays. Christine Pohlkamp of Rockwood, Ontario is the recipient of the 2006 Equine Science Certificate scholarship. The adjudicators felt Chris' essay highlighted positive effects of good horsemanship right in her own barn, as well as a comprehensive understanding of equine care issues.
